The Fax button will only appear if SoftCopier detects that you have a fax system. The bottom button selects Email and will only appear if your SMTP host has been set up in your End-User Personal Details. Internet BuzzSoft applications integrate to the Internet. When you see the BuzzSoft logo you can double click on it and it will launch your Internet browser and take you straight to the BuzzSoft website. The logo can be found in the top right corner of the About Window. Faxes In order to fax copies of documents you will need either a modem with fax software, connection to a network based fax solution, or other device which integrates into Windows. SoftCopier will integrate automatically without any configuration by yourself. Documents no longer need to be copied before they can be faxed. Put the document in your scanner, select the "Fax" button and then select the "Copier" button. Alternatively your fax device can be selected by selecting the printer button and then selecting from the list of printers shown. Network Printers If your system is connected to a network then you should be able to access other printers. You can select any of these printers by clicking on the printer button. You can also select printer specific functions with this button. Local networks If your emails will be generally sent to individuals using the same Network Server then your documents can be stored in a common area and the emails will then contain a hypertext link to them. This saves on transmission time. Your Network Server Path must be set up first in End-User Personal Details. If you use a Server Path but want to email someone not on your local network then you can override this selection by "unticking" the "Store on_local Server" box. Sending the email Click the "Send" button and emailing will start. Please note that if your computer is either not set up for auto-dial or you are not already on-line your email will fail. Make sure that you are on-line before you click "Send" or have "Auto dial" enabled within your Windows environment. The progress of your email will be shown and a progress gauge will show how much of your document has been sent. When finished the Email form will clear and you will return to the main SoftCopier window. |

Edition General All that is required to make a copy is click the Copier in the green button. Whilst copying takes place the panel colour changes from green to red, and then back to green when the copy has been sent to your printer. You must wait until this takes place before starting another copy. Your document is first scanned. There may be a delay before the scanner starts, this will vary depending on your scanner. A window will be displayed by your scanner whilst the copying process takes place. Please note some scanners will not do this, however you will of course be able to see/hear the scanner operating. Once copied the image will be processed prior to printing. Lastly the copy will be sent to your printer. Selecting a different Printer SoftCopier will send the copies to your currently selected Printer. To change this printer (only for the duration of your copying) select the configuration button and then the printer button. Further detail in the configuration section. Copy type There are three buttons which are used to select the copy type. The left button selects a black and white copy (the default), the right a grey scale copy ideal for non colour reproductions of photographs and the bottom button, colour. Colour is subject to the capabilities of both your scanner, printer and available memory. Selecting the number of copies to print By using the up and down arrows or entering a number you can select up to ninety nine copies to be printed. Output To - Print, Fax or PDF There are three buttons which are used to select where to send the copy. The first button selects the printer, the second selects your fax software and the third button, PDF format file. Please note the Professional Edition of SoftCopier will only support the creation of PDF documents up to 10 pages in size. If you require the creation of PDF files with more pages then you need the Corporate Edition. Changing paper sizes You can change paper sizes using two different methods.
Multiple page options If your scanner supports ADF (Auto Document Feeding) then SoftCopier will detect this and automatically select the multiple page option. However, if you have a non ADF scanner (i.e. most probably a flatbed scanner, the most common type) you can select the Multiple Page options button and select it manually. This option also includes a facility to Collate the scanned pages. This only applies to copies sent to your Printer or Fax. Brightness, Contrast and Preview options Clicking on the Brightness button or the Contrast button will allow you to change those settings. Using the Preview button will enable you to interactively change these settings. If you use the Preview facility you can Scan your document and look at the result on screen. Change your Contrast and Brightness settings and re-scan until you are happy with the result. Configuration SoftCopier can be configured using the Configuration option. You can save these settings (except default printer and scanner) by selecting the "Save" button. Copy Resolutions You can set the scanning resolution used for the different scan types - black/white, greyscale and colour. These setting are dependant on your requirements and performance of both the scanner and your computer. Usually the smaller the resolution (dpi) the faster the scan although quality reduces. You can select the default copy type by clicking on the black/white, greyscale or colour symbols. Output To You can select the default output method. When SoftCopier starts this option will be automatically selected. You can choose between Printer, Fax or PDF. Copy sizes SoftCopier supports all globally recognised paper sizes. Five different paper sizes can be selected to appear by default when SoftCopier starts with one paper size selected as the default size. Multiple scanners If you have more than one scanning device (scanners or cameras), you can select the one you want to use with the "Select Source" button. Printing Set the "Ignore printer margins" to a "tick" if you want SoftCopier to print an exact replica of your original. Every printer has it's own margin settings. An exact replica may have it's edges trimmed off. This is a function of the printer not SoftCopier. If this setting is "unticked" then your copy will be shrunk to fit inside the printer margins. By selecting the printer button you can change the printer your document will be sent to. This is particularly useful when SoftCopier is used on an Office network. Adobe Acrobat PDF files When a PDF file is created you can specify the Default PDF Path where the document will be saved. You may specify this path by either selecting the Browse button or by typing the path in the field. The Acrobat Reader will enable anyone to look at or print all or part of a document. This document can be delivered by disk, network or email. The PDF format effectively compresses the size of the document image(s) and makes it an ideal method for moving documents by email. Most documents used on the internet which are to be downloaded are in PDF format. |
