SMTP

The global standard for email is SMTP to send email and POP to receive email. These standards are supported by all leading software vendors globally and the vast majority of all Internet Service Providers and Email Service Providers. Three notable exceptions are AOL, Compuserve and Hotmail who do not currently (as of 14/3/2001) support either SMTP or POP email.
